One of southern Alberta’s most utilized sporting and community hubs — the University of Lethbridge’s Centre for Sport & Wellness — now has a new name. Through a monumental 25-year, $4.25-million partnership between the University of Lethbridge and South Country Co-op, the facility will now be known as the Co-op Centre for Sport & Wellness.
This partnership represents one of the most significant community-based naming commitments in the University’s history — and one that perfectly reflects who we are as a Co-op: local, invested, and community-driven.
“We see the Centre for Sport & Wellness as more than a fitness facility. It’s a place where people come together and celebrate community — echoing the values and purpose of South Country Co-op,” says Graham Getz, CEO. “This facility engages every generation, from children participating in sport camps to seniors taking fitness classes, all in the name of health and wellness. We’re proud to be part of that journey.”
This partnership was made possible through the support and collaboration of Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) — a true demonstration of co-operative values in action. It’s proof that when we work together across the Co-operative Retailing System, we can achieve more for our members, our communities, and future generations.
