SC Co-op Awarded 2025 Leaders in Sustainability Award
At South Country Co-op, our commitment to sustainability has always been rooted in the belief that small actions create meaningful change. Today, we’re proud to share that our efforts have been recognized nationally: South Country Co-op has been selected as a recipient of the 2025 Leaders in Sustainability Award from Call2Recycle Canada, the country’s leading battery collection and recycling organization.
This award celebrates organizations across Canada that demonstrate outstanding environmental stewardship, particularly in the responsible management of end-of-life batteries and in supporting the growth of a strong circular economy. Being recognized among this group is an honor that reflects our ongoing dedication to reducing waste and protecting the communities we serve.
Our Impact in 2025
Through our participation in Call2Recycle’s Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program, South Country Co-op collected kilograms of household batteries in 2025. This achievement represents more than just volume—it highlights the collective effort of our members, guests, and team members who continue to embrace responsible recycling practices.
Each battery dropped off at one of our locations contributes directly to conserving natural resources, preventing hazardous materials from entering landfills, and supporting the recovery of valuable components that can be reused in new products. We are proud to play an active role in this essential environmental initiative.
A Shared Commitment to Sustainability
As a 2025 award recipient, South Country Co-op joins a diverse and inspiring group of retailers, municipalities, waste management operators, and businesses across the country who are pushing environmental leadership forward. We are grateful to stand alongside these partners who, like us, believe in making a positive and lasting impact.
Call2Recycle Canada echoed this sentiment in celebrating this year’s partners:
“2025 was a milestone year for the Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program, driven largely by the continued leadership and collaboration of partners like South Country Co-op across the country,” said Joe Zenobio, President and CEO at Call2Recycle Canada. “Organizations like South Country Co-op play a critical role in strengthening Canada’s battery recycling system. We are pleased to recognize their commitment to sustainability and their efforts to advance Canada’s circular economy.”
Looking Ahead
At South Country Co-op, sustainability isn’t a single project—it’s an ongoing promise. As we continue to grow and serve our region, we remain dedicated to expanding our environmental initiatives, educating our communities, and seeking new opportunities to reduce our collective footprint.
We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to this accomplishment. Your participation, whether by dropping off a single battery or encouraging others to recycle, helps build a stronger, cleaner future for generations to come.
