Co-op Week 2024
ActionsSouth Country Co-op is celebrating Co-op Week 2024! This year's theme is “Innovating the Co-operative Way.”
Co-operatives are popular across the world and the model has been applied in many ways. There are a number of classifications of co-operatives: Producer/Marketing Co-operatives, Consumer Co-operatives, Worker Co-operatives, Investment Co-operatives, Multi-Stakeholder Co-operatives, New Generation Agriculture Co-operatives, Housing Co-operatives, and Community Service Co-operatives.
South Country Co-op has over 55 locations in 19 communities and our trading area stretches across southern Alberta, from High River to Lethbridge, Foremost to Oyen and all the communities in between. The co-operative model offers a unique approach to providing needed goods or services to an area, driven by a group of people working towards a common goal. They can be tailored to provide specific things a community needs, which is why almost no two co-operative locations are the same or offer the same products.
Co-operatives have a rich history and have been a concept since 1761, although the first modern co-operative was established in 1844. The initial co-operative principles they used to guide their business are still widely accepted as the basis of current co-ops. Stay tuned for our Co-op Week activities that will help you learn more about these principles.
We have a great week of fun and information planned and we hope you have a great time while learning more about how co-ops are a different kind of business.
We are local. We are your friends and neighbours. We are Co-op.
