Dividend cheques have gone out in the mail from South Country Co-op and should be safely in the hands of over 60,000 member-owners! If you haven’t received your cheque yet, please call 403-528-6600 to confirm your address with our admin department.
South Country Co-op returned $17.6 million to our member-owners for 2018, of which $12.6 million was in CASH! A significant portion of the patronage allocated to South Country Co-op from Federated Co-operatives Ltd (FCL) was due to the low price of crude oil last year; the Board of Directors and SCCOOP management recommended reinvesting this portion back into South Country Co-op to pay down long-term debt to help ensure future financial strength for the company.
During our Annual General Meeting on March 25th, Board of Directors’ President Richard Potter touched on a number of accomplishments South Country Co-op accomplished in 2018, such as:
• Cardlocks were replaced in Dunmore, Vauxhall, and Oyen
• Bulk diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) pumps were installed at cardlocks in Brooks, Lethbridge, Picture Butte, and Redcliff
• 24-hour pay at the pump availability at our Redcliff, Maple Avenue, and Northlands gas bars in Medicine Hat, and the Eagle Butte gas bar in Dunmore
• Beginning construction of a new 16-pump 8-lane gas bar/convenience store, car wash, and 4300 sq ft liquor store on Strachan Road in Medicine Hat, all built with sustainability and the environment in mind.
The Strachan Road development will be completed soon, so watch for the announcement about the grand opening in May! This isn’t the only construction project on South Country Co-op’s plate, though. In February, FCL announced that they were investing $41.8 million to build a new state-of-the-art fertilizer terminal in Grassy Lake that will be fully operational in 2020.
With this news, South Country Co-op has also pledged to build a replacement fertilizer blending facility at the Medicine Hat Agro & Hardware Centre on TWP 120 to help support the Grassy Lake terminal. The 30th Street cardlock beside the Medicine Hat airport is also on deck to be replaced this year, as well.
Other planned updates for 2019 include renovations for the 13th Avenue and Taber food stores, and the 13th Avenue Pharmacy will be updated to improve the layout, and a blister pack robot will be added to increase efficiency. A bulk DEF pump will also be installed at the Bow Island cardlock.
During the AGM, four new members were elected to our Board of Directors. We welcome Robert Weisgerber, Bill Ressler, Simon Neigum, and Sue Edwards to the South Country Co-op team! Together we will work together to further benefit our member-owners, our communities, and our environment in 2019 and beyond!
